Baratza makes a revolution in home and small-coffeeshop grinding! The methodology which had been improving for the last 8 years, merged simplicity, efficiency and durability into an even better grinding experience. Sette 270 offers exceptionally accurate grind settings not only for espresso brewing but also for variety of different hand brew methods.
Sette 270 has programmable dosing, and the grinding time for each dose is programmed in seconds. Sette's sister model 270Wi has a built in scale, and the programming is done by specifying the desired amount by weight with a 0,1 gram precision.
Burrs
40 mm steel, conical burrs produce 3,5 – 5,5 grams of grounds with decreased amount of fines (depending on the grind setting) per second. Producer, Etzinger company, estimated burrs’ optimal exploitation at couple of years. Cleaning is very easy because of effortless routine of removing and installing burrs.
Grind adjustment
Sette 270 offers 30 steps of macro adjustment and a stepless micro adjustment based on 9 indicators to get even more control. Basically, we choose the grind size using macro scale and then adjust micro setting to make our recipe as excellent as it gets. A wide range of grind size options allows to brew delicious espressos as well as hand brews or pour overs like drip, aeropress or chemex.
Design and operation
The grinder is equipped with a control panel which contains 3 buttons and a LCD screen. We can easily program our dose by adjusting the time for grinding. After the dose has been set, we simply push the START button and the grinder automatically starts to distribute desired amount.
An universal holder makes an another useful feature. We can fix the portafilter or one of the most popular brewing devices (v60, Clever or Able Kone) during burrs’ operation. Grinding directly into devices makes work with Sette 270 faster and more pleasurable.
The grinder itself looks modern and it is compact, with metal and plastics elements. Thanks to its dimensions, Sette 270 is able to fit any kitchen counter or even the tightest coffeeshop’s brew bar.

If look for a good grinder to make an espresso - it is a very good choice
While I didn't put 5,I still recommend it because it allows to build very precise grind for any coffee and equipment combination.
A few downsides - do miss a small modification that is required to get espresso grind size. A box has everything to make it possible.
Also the preferred way to grind for the espresso is directly to portafilter, but this grinder generates a little bit if wind making coffee to be spread around the kitchen) Eventually I got used to it to avoid this effect, but for portafilter of 25 gram still use additional cup to grind into.
So far so good. This is of the latests revisions.
Shipment was quick. This grinder is a very capable grinder; fast, very little retention, and very consistent grind and fluffy, clump-free. It has some fame of giving trouble after some time (1 year or 18 months), but for this price, and the ease of repair it has, you can get away changing the gearbox (which is made of plastic) and keep it running for long.
A very important point, is that this very product is of the latest produced (serial starting with 220, meaning it was manufactured in 2020) and most of the issues had been accounted. Time will tell.
This was a huge upgrade in taste, coming from a manual grinder (Javapresse). Very pleased so far!

The grinding timer and quick functions are good features.
The grind coarseness adjustments have not been beneficial in my use in any way.
I would switch to a cheaper option.
At my cottage, I have a Sage Barista Express with its own grinder. That's perfectly sufficient.
At home, I use the Sage Dual Boiler and this grinder at home.
Powerful, messy prototype
Powerful and easy to use. The ground coffee is ejected with force and bounces everywhere, resulting in a guaranteed mess every time. The portafilter holders are loose and the rubber seals rotate, causing the handle to occasionally fall out of the holders. The macro adjustment is stiff, making it difficult to adjust when approaching the end of the scale.

This grinder is simply excelent. You have a fine control of how your ground coffee is gonna come out like and it doesn't make as much of a mess as the other grinders I've used in the past.

This is my second review, my first 270 just stopped working in just under 1 year. It was covered under the guarantee and was replaced very efficiently, and with no trouble.
All in all I'm happy with the 270 and dont really feel there is another grinder at this price point that is as good. I do have a little concern over reliability, and hope that the replacement I have lasts.

grind quicker that expected. Grinding quality looks good. Design looks as good as on the picture. Not bad! Grinding module is metallic, rest is a plastic. As expected by pricing. Last years or not? Lets see.. In the manual were spare parts listed. Availability of spare parts is unknown.

Half the kitchen is full of coffee grounds, it should be redesigned....some kind of splash guard...now you have to use the container instead of directly into the portafilter...

I decided to invest in a better coffee grinder when my old one quit working. After researching different models for a while, I ended up choosing the Sette 270 grinder.
I mainly make my coffee with an Aeropress, and I plan to purchase an espresso machine in the near future. After a couple of weeks of use, the grinder produces very consistent coffee, and brewing with the Aeropress works excellently.
The grinder is marketed as suitable for espresso as well as other coffee preparation methods. However, I cannot recommend this grinder for Chemex, because at the coarsest settings, the grind still includes quite a lot of fine particles, which badly clogs the Chemex brewing. I ordered a coarser burr (BG Burr) as a spare part from Baratza, which should make brewing with Chemex possible, but we'll see what the results will be.
