Very good grinder
After extensive research, I decided to purchase this grinder based on very good reviews and the brand's reputation. I'm not disappointed so far and I'm eager to use it over the coming months to fully learn how to exploit its potential.
Coming from a manual grinder (Comandante C40), this Mignon Oro is a revelation in terms of speed, with a dose of 17g ground in about 6 seconds. I'm not going to elaborate on its technical features or strengths, which are already extensively covered online.
I would simply say that my choice fell on this grinder because of its timeless design, compact size, motor power and burr size, Italian manufacturing, a reasonable price for equipment of this quality, the ability to load the hopper and grind on demand without worrying about single dosing (although the latter is possible, having tried it, because retention is really negligible).
I use specialty coffees with a rather light roast. Being in search of coffees with a floral/fruit-forward aromatic profile, with nice acidity, I hesitated with this grinder because I had read that the Italian burrs used by Eureka did not specifically highlight these characteristics. In practice, and after testing several different coffees including Grand Crus, I find that this grinder has a taste profile that I like. I see the difference, on the same Ethiopian coffee, between the Mignon Oro and my Comandante (there is more lightness and acidity in the cup, less bitterness).
What convinced me as well is the ability to eventually switch to burrs from the brand SSP (Red Speed 64mm), which are the ultimate for light roasted coffees it seems. SSP manufactures burrs suited for the Mignon Oro/XL available on its website.
Lastly, delivery in the Paris region was very fast and efficient, with real-time tracking and good packaging. Nothing to complain about in this regard, it was perfect.
